Parallel Lines
Posted on: Aug 02, 2010

About three months ago I told director Tim de Vries and Dp Robert M. Berger (with whom I both frequently work) about an exciting global competition launched by Philips called 'Tell it your way'.
The competition is giving aspiring filmmakers the change to have an original work judged by one of world's greatest directors, Sir Ridley Scott - director of Hollywood blockbuster including Alien (1979) Blade Runner (1982) and Gladiator (2000).
Also, the competition will give one lucky winner the chance to gain a week’s work experience at Ridley Scott Associates (RSA) offices in Los Angeles, New York, London or Hong Kong.
Both Tim & Robert immediately became very enthusiast after I told them about this exciting project.... and this wave of enthusiasm was being spread all over the country and a crew was formed within the blink of an eye. Tim wrote his arse off, a set was built and we shot the film, ehm... yesterday....a week before the call for entries closes!
The contest involves creating an original sixth short film to accompany Philips’ ground-breaking Parallel Lines series of short films, directed by RSA talents, Greg Fay, Johnny Hardstaff, Carl Erik Rinsch, Jake Scott and Hi-Sim. The five short films, released on www.cinema.philips.com and on Philips Cinema's Youtube channel are part of a cinematic project whereby each director created a film in a different genre, with a different storyline, but all following the same six line dialogue (see top of this blog entry ;).

The shoot yesterday went amazingly great! It was a long tough day (I was pulling the focus - 1st AC) , 16 hours of true unicorn power, producer Stef van Wijk broke his nose (ouch), but both cast & crew were giving their best and we created something beautiful with not even a single penny of budget.
The very same day, right after we wrapped, Jip Helferink started to work on the offline edit. Dude, respect! (Don't forget to eat and sleep every now and then, bro)
The off-line edit has te be done this Wednesday. Online edit and CGI (and all other post-production work) will be done by the guys at Air Rebels.
Good luck guys!!
I won't tell you anything about the storyline or plot of our film to be submitted. As the deadline of August 8th is drawing closer, I'll post the film right here on my blog and cinematography section. So I rather surprise you by just showing the film to you andbe the judge yourself
Even if we won't win a prize or the audience and judges dislike our film...who cares...I had a great day with all of you guys (cast & crew), we had a good laugh and loved to work with you! Thank you all!
Okay, okay, a little hint so you people know what film you are looking for: Han Oldigs is playing one the leading roles as Noah...and of course we had a real unicorn around, playing the unicorn role...
A little note to mister Unicorn: you are more than beautiful and a great actor, even for a unicorn. Keep up the good work. Horns up brother! \m/
Though I gotta say: Charlie, you'll always be my favorite unicorn and the most righteous unicorn ever known!
Oh and btw, we DO want to win this grand prize of course (we like us)....So please VOTE FOR US from August 23rd.
Thanks to Emmanuel Tenenbaum for making me aware of this competition. Cheers man!

Don't forget to watch the five short Parallel Lines films. They are simply stunning!
Besides, in 2009 Philips introduced their 21:9 wiiiiiiiiiiiidescreen TV ,a screen with the same aspect ratio of the Parell Lines shorts, with this mindblowing film called 'Carousel':
