All is Red - (Internship with Robert M. Berger)
Posted on: Jun 25, 2009
Hi y'all,
Good news! Currently I am doing an intership with cinematographer Robert M. Berger, NSC - at Camlight Productions. I've met Robert a couple a years ago at the set of "Morgana", a Dutch short film shot on the Grass Valley Thomson Viper HD, where I was 1st Assistant Camera.
Back then I was already very impressed about Robert's knowledge and skills on camera techniques and lighting. After wrapping Morgana I joined Robert on some small shoots for advertisements. After that we sort of followed our own paths.
Two weeks ago I contacted Robert again and had a long conversation about film, cinematography and my and his ambitions.
Since he's one of the best (if not the best) lighting cameraman / DP around in The Netherlands, plus he owns The Red One, I knew I could learn a thing or two from Robert. I was very happy and excited Robert is willing to take me as his assistant /student on this shoots & projects. Thank you, Robert! This is one of the biggest chances to gain more knowledge, master both camera techniques and even more about lighting on film.

Robert & his sweet litle Red camera.
Last week I assisted Robert on a TV commercial for Swiss Sense (a bed brand) and next week I'll assist him on several other shoots in Holland and Belgium.
We also gonna record an ad using the Phantom hi-speed camera for ultra-slowmotion shots. I've never attended on a shoot where a slo-motion camera like the Phantom was being used. So you'll probably understand I'm even more excited, both assisting Robert his Red One camera and The Phantom!
Robert's blog: http://www.cinematography.nl/portal2/index.php?option=com_myblog&show=5-the-Rehearsal-weblog.html&Itemid=100013<=nl
and his Dutch blog: http://www.hd-tv.nl/blog/users/?forumId=2
When one of these ads is being put online, I'll let you know for sure!
Cheers Richard.
